Predatory paedophile who kidnapped and sexually assaulted girl, 6, could have been stopped if police acted quicker
A predatory paedophile may not have been free to kidnap and violently sexually assault a six-year-old girl if police had acted more quickly, a court heard. Lewis Jones, 24, abducted the child while she played with friends on a field in Droylsden, Tameside.
"The net result is in this case, a defendant, who if he had been charged when he should have been, would not have been at liberty to abduct this six-year-old girl," Judge Hilary Manley said. "That's the cold fact of the case." Prosecutor Vanessa Thomson told Jones' sentencing hearing: "There seems to have been issues with personnel, retirement, third party records and examination of a mobile phone."
Jones went on to sexually abuse her on a number of occasions, including when he managed to 'sneak' her into his home while his parents slept. He had given the girl's family a false address for where he lived.
