A new survey has found women are reporting poorer maternity experiences in a number of areas including communication during labour and birth
More than one in three pregnant women in England aren't always able to get help from maternity staff during labour and childbirth, a new report has found. And nearly half don’t always get the information they need in hospital after giving birth.
The research also found around a third of women did not have confidence and trust in the staff looking after them antenatally and during labour and birth. And 83% said their midwife always listened to them, with 87% saying they were treated with respect and dignity. ‘It is disappointing however, that for some women the care they received fell short of expectations and that trust in staff has fallen'.
The report follows findings in September that nearly half of all NHS maternity units are not up to standard. Health Secretary, Wes Streeting, said at the time, maternity care is 'one of the biggest issues that keeps me awake at night worrying'.
