⚽ Premier League clubs want to change Brexit rules so they can sign under-18s from Europe
“Our competitors in Europe are getting stronger but we’re not able to compete so that is a concern personally for what the game in our country looks like at youth level over the next five to 10 years.
“I know there’s a pushback to the Premier League and FA to maybe help change that and that elite players will be able to come back across at under-17.” Sources at the Premier League confirmed they were holding discussions with clubs about how the current points-based system was working. A “full review” of the agreement was scheduled for the summer of 2021 but ended up being delayed because the transfer window was heavily impacted by Covid.understands it is now ongoing with both the FA and the Premier League taking soundings from clubs.was partly down to the Brexit changes, with recruitment teams noting how much the pool of talent available to Premier League clubs has shrunk.
Any changes would have to be agreed by the Premier League, FA and EFL – and would ultimately need the approval of the Government. But it’s understood the Premier League is “open” to changes and are canvassing clubs for their opinions on the rules.
