A ruling last week found that Manchester City's appeal against Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules in the Premier League did not adhere to the UK's competition laws

The emergency meeting involving Premier League clubs this week to discuss Manchester City's legal dispute over sponsorship rules has been cancelled. Last week, three former judges found that APT rules which restrict businesses who are connected with owners of football clubs from inflating sponsorship deals were unlawful.

In this case, Manchester United, City and the remainder of the Premier League member clubs were invited to a number of meetings this week, so that changes could be made. In a statement earlier this month, City said: "Following today’s publication of the Rule X Arbitral Tribunal Award, Manchester City Football Club thanks the distinguished members of the Arbitral Tribunal for their work and considerations and welcomes their findings: "The Tribunal found that both the original APT rules and the current, APT Rules violate UK competition law and violate the requirements of procedural fairness.
