Staff Reports Myles Tyler scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Ariton a walk-off 4-3 win over Wicksburg and the Class 2A second-round series Friday afternoon at Thad Dansby Field.
Wicksburg’s strong season came to an end with a 21-6 record. The win total was the best for the Panthers since winning 22 games in 2018. Earlier, Wicksburg grabbed a 2-0 lead with a single run in the both the first and third innings. In the first inning, Glover, who led off the game with a single, scored on an Easton Dean sacrifice fly. In the third. Glover drew a walk, stole second and moved to third on a Seth Williams sacrifice bunt before scoring on a Drew Colon sacrifice fly.
Three Ariton players – Kilpatrick, Aven Cook and Tyler – had two hits each with Kilpatrick driving in a run.Lawson Leger picked up the win for Ariton, throwing four innings of relief. He gave up five hits and one run, while striking out two and walking two. Ian Senn started and went three innings, striking out two and giving up two runs, only one earned, one hit and three walks.Headland ousted again by Holtville: The Holtville Bulldogs have become enemy No. 1 for the Headland Ram baseball team.
In Friday’s game, Headland fell behind 4-0 after four innings, but bounced back and scored four times in the fifth to tie it. Collin Phillips hit a two-run homer, Evan Taylor a run-scoring single and Wyatt Shelley a RBI double for the Rams in the inning.
