The Cup Series returns to the track after a two-week break for the Olympics. Denny Hamlin is the favorite in Sunday’s Cook Out 400.
Jon Johnson Jason Wambles has certainly made some strides during his six years as head coach at Samson.
“We’re doing things the right way,” Wambles said. “We have a lot of kids playing and we don’t have a lot of kids in summer school any more trying to get eligible. I think when I first got there we had 15 in summer school to get eligible and now we’ve got none. “We’ve got 60 kids playing football. We’re very strong. Where we get beat is on speed … we don’t have a lot of that at Samson. Now we have it coming. We coach the junior high, too, and in three years we’ve only lost three games. I’ve got my hand in the rec program and we have 200 and something kids playing rec ball.”
“Again, he won’t be able to do what he’s really good at a lot for us. If he could run he would be a Division I quarterback. He benches 315 pounds and squats 400 and he can sling it … 65 yards easy.”“He’s been starting since the eighth grade,” Wambles said. “He’s going to be really good … he’s fast.” Other returning starters are Jackson Hart, Gus Revel and Lamb at linebacker slots, Treyvon Johnson at defensive back and Yarbrough at safety.
