The 103rd Ohio Open Championship is right around the corner, with tournament action set for July 1-3 at Westfield Country Club.
The field of competition consists of 288 professionals and amateurs from across the state of Ohio.“It’s our most prestigious event in the state,” 3x Ohio Open winner Rob Moss said. “You get all of the top players in the state to come out and compete.”
The reigning champion is Michael Balcar from Toledo. Balcar, the former Cleveland State standout finished with a score of 196 to earn his first Ohio Open title in 2023. “It’s really a springboard event for most of our professionals and amateurs to really launch their careers,” Executive Director for Northern PGA, David Griffith said. “Most of them have aspirations to play for a living and this Championship really starts it for them.”
Notable winners of the Ohio Open include Jack Nicklaus, who was the youngest winner in history at 16-years-old, Byron Nelson, Denny Shute, Herman Keiser, Tom Weiskopf and Billy Burke. “I think we probably have the deepest field we’ve ever had, meaning the best field,” Griffith said. “You’re going to see some great amateurs and great professionals all coming together and competing against each other.”Brunswick mom claims daycare teacher witnessed director slam her 4-year-old to the ground
