Updated: Jun. 18, 2024, 12:34 p.m.On Tuesday at 12:19 p.m. an excessive heat warning was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until Friday at 8 p.m. for Butler, Beaver, Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland and Fayette counties.
"Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events," says the weather service.Keep yourself well-hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.Stay out of the sun, and make sure to check up on relatives and neighbors.Never forget to safeguard young children and pets by not leaving them unattended in vehicles, especially during scorching weather when car interiors can become life-threateningly hot.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas for outdoor workers.In emergency situations, dial 911 for immediate assistance.
