President Joe Biden is currently on his first state visit to France , often described as America's oldest ally. Biden is highlighting the long history and the current stakes of the partnership at a time when war has returned to the European continent.“Today, I proudly stand with France to support freedom and democracy around the world. That is what this spectacular week is all about,” Biden said in a joint news conference with French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday.
'All of these European countries that are part of NATO want to make sure they will not face a war that creeps further into Europe from Ukraine, which is why they're so invested in making sure Ukraine succeeds,' said Donatienne Ruy, a fellow with the Center for Strategic and International Studies. 'If Ukraine falls, who knows what is next.
