The tomato plant at the Docks A Preston couple have grown what could be the first crop of tomatoes originating from the Docks. The story began in Decembe

A Preston couple have grown what could be the first crop of tomatoes originating from the Docks. The story began in December 2022 when Victoria and Ste Whiley were out walking and noticed a tomato plant growing near the Green Frog.

Victoria said: “At first we were sceptical, thinking it must be something else – how on earth could a tomato plant firstly survive the howling gales of the Docks, let alone bear fruit? “However it very much was… We have since figured it must have been the remants of someone’s Green Frog sandwich tossed away that had enabled it to develop.”The last souvenir of the Green Frog?

Victoria continued: “We took a couple of tomatoes – one was to taste and the other was to cut open for the seeds.“Earlier this year we planted them in our back yard and low and behold we have now got our first crop of Preston Docks tomatoes! Last souvenir of the Green Frog? Power of nature and patience indeed.”
