Major plans for a huge new water sports park transforming Phoenix Park on Preston Docks are set to be approved.

The 95m long dry ski slope will be used in part for uphill/downhill mountain biking by those in care staying at the site as well as pre-booking for schools and local sports groups. It will be managed and operated from the approved Pioneer Tec Building, however it will not be directly open to the public.

The Environment Agency had initially objected to the proposals due to pollution concerns. However these have now been withdrawn following further information on how pollution would be controlled from the site. In conclusion, the council report states: "Comments received from the consultation and from consultees have been considered throughout the report. The proposals would not be widely visible given the landscaping retained and proposed at the site and would therefore not have an unacceptable impact on the character of the open countryside.
