Pret A Manger has backtracked on its plan to double the monthly cost of its Club Pret coffee subscription, keeping the fee at £5 per month. This decision comes after customer outcry and soaring coffee bean prices.
Pret A Manger has reversed its decision to double the monthly cost of its coffee subscription , much to the delight of its loyal customers. The sandwich chain had previously announced that the Club Pret subscription, which allows for up to five barista-made drinks per day, would increase from £5 to £10 a month starting March 31. This hike followed an overhaul of the previous £360-a-year subscription in July 2022, which transitioned to a 50% discount on up to five daily coffees for £10 a month.
However, after facing backlash from subscribers, Pret A Manger has now confirmed that the monthly fee will remain at £5. In a statement, the company emphasized its commitment to providing high-quality, organic coffee and barista-made drinks at affordable prices. The reversal comes as coffee bean prices continue to reach record highs, driven by factors such as poor harvests in major producing regions, geopolitical conflict, and supply chain disruptions. The original price increase was intended to offset these rising costs, but Pret A Manger ultimately decided to absorb the additional expense rather than burden its subscribers. This decision has been met with widespread approval on social media, with many customers expressing their gratitude for the company's willingness to listen to their feedback. Pret A Manger has also made other changes to its Club Pret offering, including removing a 20% discount on food for subscribers, citing a desire to eliminate dual pricing. The company operates 498 stores in the UK, including 291 in London, and has recently expanded into Africa with a new store in Johannesburg

While this is an observational study and cannot establish causation, the findings highlight a potential link between morning coffee consumption and improved health outcomes.
