Travel guru Simon Calder says this destination is 'very good value'

Anyone planning a summer holiday in Europe who doesn't want to break the bank should consider a holiday in the Balkans, one of the country's leading travel experts has said. In an interview with the Express, Simon Calder said: 'If you want a bargain destination, then I would head for the Balkans - Bulgaria is always very good value for package holidays.' Bulgaria shares borders with Greece and Turkey, and enjoys a similar warm climate.

Sunny Beach is full of amusements, from bungee jumps to slides and rollercoaster riders. A number of crazy golf courses also line the sand. Those looking for a more authentic experience can catch a boat from the main pier in Sunny Beach over to the island of Nessebar. Nessebar old town is on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The ancient city offers beautiful views of the Black Sea. Cobbled streets lead to old churches and family-run restaurants serving fresh seafood and Bulgarian wine.
