A winch paramedic who risked his life to save climbers stuck on Britain’s highest peak won the hearts of TV viewers on Thursday night.
Samuel’s widow Sophie from Northern Ireland, who gave birth to the couple’s son a month after her husband’s death, said she could not thank Duncan enough.Sophie, 28, of Co Down, said: “My words will never repay the sacrifice he made to assist in getting Samuel’s friends from that mountain. I hope that if anything comes from the Pride of Britain Awards it is that the recognition of jobs such as Duncan’s, for his outstanding bravery, that remains in everyone’s hearts and minds.
Duncan said the tragedy reflected the “stark reality” of the work his team does. Inverness Search and Rescue had responded to reports that a man had fallen.
