Bank holiday for King's coronation announced - date confirmed by Downing Street
The Prime Minister has confirmed the UK will enjoy an extra bank holiday next year in celebration of the King’s coronation. Rishi Sunak has said the holiday will fall on Monday, May 8, two days after King Charles III officially takes the throne. It will apply across the UK.
It follows calls from Conservative MPs to move the early May bank holiday from May 1 or to give the public an extra day off. Sunak said: “The coronation of a new monarch is a unique moment for our country. In recognition of this historic occasion, I am pleased to announce an additional bank holiday for the whole United Kingdom next year.
