Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Yellowstone ushered in a resurgence of Western television series, but Amazon Prime Video's entry into the genre is unlike any other Western in today's landscape. The Paramount Network neo-Western drama series, created by Taylor Sheridan, was released in 2018, but it didn't pick up traction until its second season premiered a year later.
Prime Video's Outer Range Is Western Meets Sci-Fi Close Outer Range, a science fiction neo-Western television series, was created by Brian Watkins and premiered on April 15, 2022, on Amazon Prime Video. While it's seemingly just one of the many neo-Western shows presently floating around, it separates itself from the crowd because of its sci-fi roots. Outer Range revolves around Royal Abbott, a rancher in Wyoming, and Autumn, a drifter who finds herself on Royal's ranch.
Of course, the Amazon Prime Video show also contains traditional Western themes, as Royal's family has to contend with a rival family trying to possess their land. But the primary aspect of the series that makes it unique is its sci-fi elements. So, Outer Range has everything that one would want in a neo-Western drama, but it also features complex mysteries and supernatural themes.
