EXCLUSIVE: Prince Andrew is determined to stay at Royal Lodge even though King Charles would prefer that the Prince and Princess of Wales moved in with their children, as former royal correspondent Jennie Bond reveals how he may get his wish

It looks like Prince Andrew may get to continue living at Royal Lodge on the Windsor Park estate, despite rumours that his older brother King Charles is keen for him to vacate the sprawling and decaying 30 room home for a smaller property. It is believed that the King would like Andrew to move somewhere else, such as Frogmore Cottage, so Charles’s son Prince William and daughter-in-law Kate and their three children can move into Royal Lodge.

“I don’t think William and Catherine are in any rush to uproot their little family and move into a new house, especially with everything else that is going on in their lives,” Jennie said. “I think they relish the idea of bringing up the family in relatively modest circumstances, making the children feel less set apart from their friends at school. Royal Lodge is evidently quite a major undertaking with huge overheads to repair and maintain it.

If Andrew were to move out but William and Kate did not to move in, there is another option for Royal Lodge. “Even though it’s in a sensitive location in Windsor Great Park, it’s conceivable that it could be rented out privately to someone who would be willing to pay the overheads,” Jennie added. “But it’s also a house with a great royal history attached and the family may want to keep it that way.

It is believed Prince Andrew has signed a 75 year lease on Royal Lodge, which he shares with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson. In June, a source told The Times: "The King's kindness is not without limit and there is a very good option for Andrew to move into Frogmore Cottage, recently vacated by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which also has the benefit of being within the Windsor Castle security cordon hence reducing the need for alternative round-the-clock security for Royal Lodge.
