Buckingham Palace had intended to issue a statement earlier, but Harry "begged" them to hold off as he wanted to be present, according to Omid Scobie, the author of Endgame.
The Palace agreed to wait, but eventually decided to announce the news without him. A spokesperson for the King stated: "The public was only informed after every family member had been informed." On the day of The Queen's death, members of the Royal Family rushed to Aberdeenshire to be by her side at Balmoral. The Duke of Sussex was scheduled to attend a charity award ceremony in London on September 8 but had to cancel it to rush to his grandmother's bedside.
