The Duke of Sussex had taken his late mother's engagement ring from Charles after she died and planned to give it to his future wife one day but selflessly gave it up to William when he asked for it to propose to Kate.

According to Princess Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell, after the late princess died in 1997, Charles had allowed his two sons to each select a special item from her jewellery collection to keep, the Mirror reports. However, when the time did come for William to get engaged, Harry selflessly gave up the ring to his brother after he had kept it for all those years.
He said: "Obviously, she's not going to be around to share in all the fun and excitement, so this is my way of keeping her close to it all." "And it's incredibly special. And you know to be able to have this which sort of links where you come from and Botswana which is important to us and it's perfect."In 2019, the Duchess was spotted wearing a redesigned version of it with a thinner micro pave band and was seen wearing the jewel alongside another stunning ring.
