Etiquette expert William Hanson has weighed in on the age-old debate over the correct way to assemble your scone - and says the royal way is the right way.
Etiquette authority William Hanson is renowned for his firm stance on manners and customs.
"During the electioneering of 2015, the then Prime Minister David Cameron visited a cafe in Barnstaple, Devon, and pronounced that, in Devon, you add jam first and then cream to scones - which, for those new to this matter of life and death, is the Cornish way, not the Devonian. This was a very serious breach of local custom. You can imagine the uproar."
He suggests, "I suspect their distinct edicts on where to stick the cream came about as an example of this." Recently, William sparked debates by suggesting that the way you cut your toast could inadvertently reveal your social class. The 35 year old, who has gained over two million followers on TikTok with his etiquette tips, believes that many people prepare their toast incorrectly before eating it.
