'I don’t say this lightly but that performance really conveys the Diana that I got to know.' Princess Diana's biographer Andrew Morton has heaped praise on Elizabeth Debicki for her portrayal of the late royal in The Crown Season 5.
The latest episodes span from 1990 to 1997, the year that Princess Diana died in a car accident in Paris, France.
On Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain, Andrew – who released a biography of the Princess of Wales following her death titled Diana: Her True Story in Her Own Words – was asked for his views on the latest portrayal of her in The Crown.‘Well I’ve just watched the first few minutes of episode two, and quite frankly I’m deeply shocked,’ he told GMB’s Ed Balls and Susanna Reid.‘It was like being in the room with Diana. Elizabeth Debicki and her portrayal of Diana was astonishing.
Susanna remarked that Andrew’s view was ‘so interesting to hear’, because she knew that Elizabeth ‘was almost overwhelmed with the responsibility of playing such an iconic character’, having taken over the role from season four star Emma Corrin.Princess Diana died in 1997 in a car crash in Paris ‘She’s done a Golden Globe worth of acting there I think. She’ll be up for the awards,’ Andrew added.
