Carl Mould has now changed his name by deed poll to Nicholas Hampshire

A serial conman from Nottingham is back behind bars for ripping off customers to the tune of some £65,000. Carl Mould, now going by the name Nicholas Hampshire, pleaded guilty to five counts of fraud when he appeared over a video link from HMP Nottingham at Nottingham Crown Court.

The 58-year-old of Basford Road admitted to taking money from five customers for building and gardening work he had agreed to carry out between March 2021 and July 2022. The prosecutor said: “The total deficit is around £65,000 and Mr Hampshire has a significant record with 10 previous convictions for 40 offences including 24 for fraud and he has received significant prison sentences over the years.”

The hearing was told how Hampshire had been remanded to prison as earlier this year he had breached the terms of a suspended sentence order by committing offences of driving while disqualified and without insurance. That initial sentence was handed to him in the summer of 2023 for harassment. In 2018, when he was still known as Carl Mould, the defendant was exposed as a conman by a BBC programme. Judge Steve Coupland remanded him into prison and told him he would sentence him on November 18.
