A prolific shoplifter has been banned from four shops after admitting to a spree of thefts.

Jenna Harris, 53, of Lincoln Drive in South Oxhey, appeared at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on April 11 where she was handed an 18-month community order.

She also faces a fine and must pay compensation after pleading guilty to five shoplifting offences and breaching a community protection notice. Herts Police's Three Rivers Community Safety Unit then successfully applied for a criminal behaviour order meaning Harris can no longer enter the Co-op in The Parade, or Tesco Express, Lidl, and Nisa Local in Prestwick Road.Such orders are available on conviction for any criminal offence and aim to tackle “serious and persistent offenders”, Herts Police said.

Sergeant Adam Johnson added: “Despite attempts by police and partner agencies to engage with Miss Harris to steer her away from criminal activity, the offending has continued. “The purpose of the order is to put in place preventative measures to criminalise actions that lead to the offending behaviour. We want our comments to be a lively and valuable part of our community - a place where readers can debate and engage with the most important local issues. The ability to comment on our stories is a privilege, not a right, however, and that privilege may be withdrawn if it is abused or misused.
