AFL executive Tanya Hosch gave a spirited speech “on one leg”, saying a Voice to parliament would improve the experience of Indigenous people in the health system.
revealed she had part of her lower leg amputated two weeks ago and was released from hospital on Tuesday, just a day before she gave an impassioned speech at the launch of the Voice campaign in Adelaide.
Hosch, who drew a standing ovation, said the proposed Voice advisory body would improve the experience of Indigenous people in the health system. After the event ended, Hosch – who was flanked by her school-age daughter – was mobbed by friends and supporters wishing her well and congratulating her on her bravery.She spoke to this masthead about the connection she had made in her speech between her personal illness and how a Voice could have helped her and other Australians in a similar situation.
