Officially recognized by the United Nations since 2008, World Ocean Day aims to encourage individuals and organizations to celebrate ocean diversity through educational and community programs and to promote awareness about ocean life and issues like pollution and climate change.at the World Ocean Day Festival.
“We really want people to come to Galveston, experience the ocean, and learn,” said Artist Boat Executive Director Karla Klay.Then, tour the nature trails on June 7 and learn how to transcribe your observations in your own nature journal with award-winning author Kimberly Ridley. This activity will continue at the larger World Ocean Day Festival on June 8.
At the festival, guests will enjoy eco-workshops, exhibits, drum circles, water coloring, bucket brigade beach tours, bucket art contests, and nature journaling.
