Court told alleged victim 'initiated into sex work by the OCG based in Ballymena'
A PSNI human trafficking investigation started after officers were contacted by a “vulnerable female” who travelled from Romania but ended up as a sex worker in a Co Antrim town, a court heard on Thursday.
Giving evidence to the court Det. Const. Bickerstaff said she believed she could connect all four defendants to each of the charges and only Orhean did not lodge an application for bail and he was remanded into custody until 12 September. According to the police case Duta and Orhean transported the female from Dublin to a property in Omagh in June last year and between then and December 2023, she was the subject of “advertisements in adult websites for sexual services”.
The detective said the police investigation had found evidence that each of the defendants were connected to each other through cash deposits, bank transfers and telecommunication evidence which all allegedly supported the police case.
