A violent brawl erupted at a Liverpool pub after a woman accused Mark Nolan's cousin, Raymond Perry, of sexual assault . The incident unfolded on September 21, 2023, at the Brookhouse pub in Wavertree. Tension escalated when Perry was accused of inappropriately touching a woman, leading to a confrontation with her boyfriend, who was part of a group of students. Although Perry denied any sexual misconduct and faced no charges, this accusation sparked the altercation.
Perry was pushed by the boyfriend, leading to a retaliatory punch. Mark Nolan, who had been sitting at a table, intervened by striking a student over the head with a beer bottle caught on CCTV footage. Security staff eventually intervened to separate the combatants. \Ten minutes later, as the group of students left the pub, they were assaulted by another man, who punched them both. Nolan then approached and hit one of the students with a bottle, causing a serious facial injury. Perry retrieved a bar stool and hurled it at the injured man before fleeing the scene in a car.\The victim, Shyun Patel, a 21-year-old dentistry student at the University of Liverpool, sustained a broken cheekbone and a 5cm deep wound exposing muscle. Patel required cosmetic surgery to repair the facial scar and experienced significant emotional distress. In his victim impact statement, he expressed his fear of the assault and the lasting impact it had on his sense of safety and well-being in the city. Both Nolan and Perry surrendered to the police following a public appeal with CCTV footage
