From national award-winners to quirky signs, there's plenty of tipples to tempt the taste buds - and did we mention the discount?
People sometimes turn their noses up at anything beyond a voyage to the bottom of the road when it comes to enjoying a pint, but sometimes it’s worth venturing just a bit further. Like St Helens . Now as a long-term fan of pub crawls, I’ve learned that it’s a challenge getting people who like a city centre to look a bit further afield. Lark Lane , maybe. Waterloo , sometimes, Chester, if people want a day out.
Inside it’s a different kind of classic British pub - this time a busy town pub, all stained glass, spinning brass ceiling fans, and packed with ornaments. And better still, with loads of handpumps - up to 14, the good folk at CAMRA tell me. So many ales, you’ll need the barman to refer you to the blackboard. Luckily this is another pub with friendly service - very much a hallmark of our St Helens trip.
