A controversial establishment

The owner of a Preston pub which was shut down after a man was left with a fractured skull has hit out at the 'troublesome' surrounding area as well as feeling 'let down' by a now moved on licensee.

Ahead of that crunch meeting, which is due to take place on Monday, Amber Taverns told LancsLive that it wanted to be able to continue running the pub but would do so under new management. It also described the area around the Adelphi Street boozer as "troublesome".Lancashire Constabulary asked the council to review the licence after violent scenes erupted on February 5 and saw police arrive to find a man with "significant bleeding to the skull".

According to witnesses, the incident started in the rear beer garden of the premises before spilling out on to the side street and involved around 10 men fighting. It was the latest in a string of incidents linked to the pub including mass brawls, topless men fighting, allegations of drug dealing and underage drinking, and claims of out of hours trading.

A spokesperson said: "The previous licensee, whom we have now removed from the premises did not keep us informed of incidents at the Wellfield... We will be offering some significant conditions to the operation at the hearing and would want the opportunity to continue trading.
