— Classes in all public schools will begin on Aug. 29 this academic year 2023-2024, the Department of Education announced on Thursday.
Private schools may meanwhile choose to start classes"not later than the last day of August," pursuant to Republic Act 11480, the DepEd said. Since 2021, the department set the beginning of classes in August or September following a late October opening in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This has pushed back the break between school years from the typical March-June to either June-August or July-September.
