Austin’s proposed Project Connect mass transit system is getting some new attention this week. On Wednesday, Austin Transit Partnership will get a progress repo

will get a progress report on the system, and on Thursday, the Austin City Council will hear from the public on proposed development near the proposed light rail routes.

Four years ago in the high-turnout 2020 general elections, 240,000 local voters— or 58% of the turnout— voted to approve Project Connect, and an even larger number approved financing the the then $7 billion dollar price tag. On Thursday, the Austin City Council will hear from the public about proposed changes to the city's development code aimed at creating new affordable housing around the project connect system. The city calls it “equitable transit-oriented development.”
