The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has cautioned the public from dealing with individuals who claim to be its employees or authorized representatives, as it maintained that the central bank does not conduct any solicitations.
In an advisory, the BSP said the unscrupulous individuals use both real and fictitious names of its personnel, officers, and organizational units in making phone calls or sending messages to their target victims.
They are also said to use fraudulent mobile numbers and email addresses which resemble legitimate and official sources within the central bank. “In the performance of their official functions, the BSP clarifies that its personnel, officers, and units will never solicit money or ask any information or documents involving private individuals’ financial transactions,” the central bank said.
“To guard against such misrepresentations, the BSP reminds the public to always remain vigilant, avoid providing personal or financial information to suspicious individuals, and refrain from sending money to unverified recipients,” it added.The BSP has repeatedly , including advisories against smishing or phishing scams that use text messages to urge users to click on malicious links.— or text messages purporting to be from legitimate organizations with the aim of obtaining personal information — so far this year.against spam text messages, its third time to do so. It issued similar orders on May 27 and June 9. —
