The number of pubs in England and Wales continues to decline, but 2025 could be the year to grab your opportunity. Several pubs are currently on the market, offering a chance to become a landlord or tenant.
If you've ever fancied a change of career, pulling pints for a living, or taking over your own pub if you're already in the industry, 2025 could be the year to make it happen. The search is on for buyers and new tenants for a number of pubs. Amongst those currently on the market are a sizeable city centre pub, neighbourhood community locals, and a prime rooftop bar. It's not an easy trade to be in though.
More than 400 pubs across England and Wales disappeared for good in 2024, according to the latest figures. Government statistics show 412 pubs were demolished or converted for other uses over the year to December. With 34 pubs a month closing, it means the number of locals has dropped below 39,000 for the first time. Rising prices and changing habits have been blamed. But if you're brave enough and think you have what it takes, these are some of the properties available. Via Fossa, which closed in October 2024, is up for sale with a long lease. The pub in Canal Street, Nottingham, is described as a 'substantial four storey detached period property.' Listed on Rightmove, the price hasn't been revealed and is only available on request. Find out more The Great Northern Inn, in Ossington Road, Newark, was put up for sale in September 2023. The pub, that is close to the A1, boasts character trading areas, a patio, beer garden and 40+ space car park. There's also potential for a caravan park at the 1.9 acre site. The asking price is £375,000. Full details The Wellington Inn, prominently situated in Nottingham Road, Eastwood, is trading while up for sale. The open plan pub has room for 60 inside and seating for a further 48 at the front and a rear beer garden with seating for 20. The freehold price is £325,000.
