A simple saucepan in the freezer can help you save money on your electricity bill this winter, quite simply! Here's how.
Winter is approaching: and while temperatures are dropping, electricity bills are continuing to climb. To reduce energy consumption, we need to think about optimising the use of our household appliances – and the freezer in particular! This appliance, which is often neglected, can drive up your bill in winter, especially if you forget to defrost it, or if it's incorrectly filled.
Freezer: why you need to fill it at all costs Did you know that? A freezer that runs empty consumes a lot more energy, and for nothing! That's because every time you open the door of an underfilled freezer, cold air escapes and the appliance has to make an extra effort to cool down again. The practical tip to adopt now? If you don't have anything to store in the freezer, you can simply place bottles of water or bags of ice in it to occupy the space. Ideally, the freezer should be three-quarters full, so that it can maintain a constant temperature without adding to your electricity bill. But that's not the only thing you need to do to save money with your freezer.
But when and how? We recommend that you defrost your freezer as soon as the ice reaches a thickness of 2 mm. And while this may seem like a tedious operation, there's actually a very simple trick to make it much quicker and less time-consuming: the pan technique.
