‘Put up or shut up’: How ‘must-win’ test could leave Lions with a prize... or ‘serious questions’
Having won three of their last four matches, the Lions enter Friday’s clash in good form despite a spluttering finish against Adelaide last week.
“If they do win, it almost secures second spot on the ladder, which means they‘ll get their first final at home they win that prelim at home and then they only come to Melbourne on grand final day if they drop this as you said with a vulnerable colony with missing some key personnel don’t really have as much to play.
“I reckon it’s a huge game for Brisbane. The Lions should be and would be absolutely craving this opportunity to take on Collingwood down there,” he told foxfooty.com.au. Despite their success in 2023, Brisbane’s Achilles heel this season has been its failure to, for the most part, close out matches convincingly.
“They are putting themselves in winning positions and that’s all you can ask for, that’s what they’re doing. But I think they’re going to learn a lot from this, because if they open the door against really good teams and Collingwood is one of them ... They may get overrun like they did against Melbourne a few weeks ago at the MCG.
The flag favourites suffered back-to-back losses in round 20 and 21 and edged out Geelong by eight points last week.All three of those games came on the MCG, which the Pies may well not leave for the rest of the season.
