Russian leaders have signalled a greater willingness to broach peace talks in recent weeks, albeit on terms that are totally unacceptable to Kyiv. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has signalled theoretical openness to talks. “If there is a proposal, then we will consider it,” he said on Tuesday. Mr Lavrov also said Russia would consider a potential meeting with US President Biden, though no such offer has been made publicly by the US.Ukraine is maintaining a firm line. The goal is “Ukraine liberates its territories. Including the annexed Crimea,” said Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky, last week.
