“Vladimir Kara-Murza bravely denounced Russia’s invasion of Ukraine for what it was – a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter,” said Mr Cleverly. “Russia’s lack of commitment to protecting fundamental human rights, including freedom of expression, is alarming.”

He said that he had known what his trial’s outcome would be ever since he realised he was about to be arrested last year, “when I saw people in black uniforms and black masks running after my car in the rearview mirror.
