PwC will speed up hiring cybersecurity experts and cloud computing engineers in South Australia where its technology hub is growing twice as fast as the rest of the firm.
PwC’s transformation from a firm of beancounters into an outfit full of IT professionals is accelerating amid insatiable client demand for help with moving systems into the cloud and protecting data from hackers.
Mr Seymour expects the centre to have about 1000 staff by the middle of next year, meaning the centre is growing at roughly double the rate of the rest of the firm. They are all chasing the same market as dedicated IT consulting firms such as Accenture and Capgemini – companies that also have Adelaide-based delivery centres. The Commonwealth Bank of Australia has also opened a technology hub – its third hub – in Adelaide.Mr Seymour said that while the firm’s leaders had expected staff retention to be higher in Adelaide than in other states, they have been surprised at the willingness of people to move to the city from eastern states.
“But the real cost advantage is actually for our staff. The cost for them to live here [is lower] versus what it is in other places – they’re paid the same [in Adelaide] as they would be in like roles in other cities,” he said.a year, its senior associates from $73,000 and its managers from $92,700 as of last April.
