Queensland’s plan for two new pumped hydro projects won’t be enough to fill the gap from the loss of coal-fired power stations by 2035, according to energy experts.

Dylan McConnell, a research fellow at the Climate and Energy College at the University of Melbourne, said the replacement of Queensland’s fleet of coal-fired power stations with pumped hydro was not a “like-for-like” swap.
“If you have a period of really cloudy weather for weeks and weeks, obviously there may be some challenges there.”
