The Toowoomba university student who was medically evacuated from Taiwan after unknowingly consuming rat poison has spoken from his Brisbane hospital bed for the first time.

Shorey had been in and out of hospital in the Taiwanese capital, Taipei, for weeks after noticing blood in his urine and black skin spots, for which his GP father, Stephen, urged him to seek help.after his condition worsened to the point of organ failure followed by severe allergic reactions to his treatment.

“Police questioned this female friend on Thursday and restricted her from leaving Taiwan,” the spokesman reportedly said. The woman was said to be the only suspect in the case, which captured the attention of local media.
