A quadruple amputee in Scotland appeared in court after assaulting a bus passenger and two police officers with his prosthetic hook. The incident unfolded at Perth Bus Station, where the suspect, Thomas Proudfoot, was reported to be under the influence of an unknown substance. He struck a passenger with his hook, then spat at and attempted to bite two police officers during his arrest.
Thomas Proudfoot, a 28-year-old quadruple amputee , appeared in court facing charges after assaulting a bus passenger and two police officers. The incident occurred at Perth Bus Station in Scotland on December 9th. According to Fiscal depute Stephanie Paterson, Proudfoot was seemingly under the influence of an unknown substance on the bus. When passenger Wayne Mysiuk approached him to de-escalate the situation, Proudfoot spat at him, striking his face and shoulder.
Proudfoot then got off the bus but returned moments later. After apologizing and offering a handshake with his prosthetic hook, without warning, he struck Mysiuk with the hook, knocking him to the ground. Two police officers arrived to arrest Proudfoot. During the arrest, he spat at PC Matthew Thomson, and his prosthetic hook got caught in the officer's wedding ring, causing a skin break. Proudfoot then attempted to bite PC Thomson's hand but was able to stop before any injury occurred. He further assaulted PC Cameron Sutherland by biting his left calf, although causing no injury. Proudfoot admitted to all charges, including assaulting and injuring Mysiuk with his hook and two charges of police assault. Sheriff Clair McLachlan sentenced Proudfoot to a two-year community payback order and placed him under supervision. Proudfoot's solicitor stated that he deeply regrets his actions and has written a letter of apology to Mysiuk. This is not Proudfoot's first offense. Last year, he was jailed for six months for assaulting a police officer with his hook and attempting to bite two others. He has also served a seven-year sentence for a horrific sex attack in 2014 and remains on the Sex Offenders Register for life. In 2012, a train crash led to Proudfoot losing his arms and legs. He now uses four prosthetic limbs, including a false arm with a metal claw. This incident highlights the dangers posed by individuals with severe amputations, especially when under the influence of substances, and the need for proper treatment and rehabilitation
