The charming village of New Mills in Derbyshire, situated just 13 miles from the popular town of Buxton, is fast becoming a coveted destination for those visiting the Peak District. With its quiet allure, it offers an idyllic escape from urban noise and tempo.
Not only is New Mills a treat for the eyes, perfectly perched at the cusp of the national park, but it is also luring numerous day-trippers who are looking to explore beyond its boundaries. They are especially captivated by The Torrs, a spectacular gorge under the town where the confluence of the River Sett and River Goyt creates a beautiful backdrop, reports Derbyshire Live.
Long-time inhabitant Mavis reveals her changing feelings towards her hometown. "I've lived here all my life but as a teenager, I just wanted out," Mavis recounted. Furthering her praises, she added: "It's a really lovely town with a fantastic community. There are independent shops and you can walk to the countryside from anywhere in New Mills."
Reflecting on life in New Mills, Sue expressed: "When you say you live in New Mills to people outside, very few people have heard of it, which I think is quite nice. However, that is changing as it was voted the fourth most desirable place to live in the UK in national ranking, and we definitely notice that on the trains, there are far more people wandering around, seeing the Torrs and going on the walks around here.
