The number of people on remand has almost doubled since the Covid pandemic, new analysis shows.

According to latest figures, 33% of those currently on remand have been waiting for longer than 140 days.A spokesman for the Scottish Prison Service said: "While it is not for us to determine who should be remanded to custody, the impact on our establishments is significant.
