Queen Camilla is distributing the traditional Royal Maundy Money on behalf of her husband in the traditional pre-Easter service, which this year was held at Worcester Cathedral.
Queen Camilla has stepped in for King Charles at a major Easter service, as he continues his cancer treatment. This year's traditional pre-Easter service was held at Worcester Cathedral, where the Queen handed out the Royal Maundy Money on behalf of her husband.
In his recorded Bible reading and personal message, he praised the recipients of the Maundy money as "wonderful examples of such kindness". He commended them for "giving so much of their lives to the service of others in their communities", reports the Mirror. "And, as we have just heard, in doing so he deliberately gave to them and to us all an example of how we should serve and care for each other. In this country we are blessed by all the different services that exist for our welfare. But over and above these organisations and their selfless staff, we need and benefit greatly from those who extend the hand of friendship to us, especially in a time of need.
Photos show Charles at his desk in Buckingham Palace's 18th Century Room, recording his message in mid-March. This money is a thank you for their exceptional Christian service and for making a positive impact in their local communities. The campaign group Republic, which wants the UK to have an elected leader instead of a king or queen, showed their support in Worcester when the Queen came to visit. They shared on social media last week: "We're very sorry to hear about Kate's cancer diagnosis and wish her a speedy recovery."
