BREAKING: Queen leaves Balmoral for the final time as coffin starts journey to Edinburgh.
The Queen’s coffin has departed Balmoral and will travel down through Scotland, arriving in Edinburgh later today has begun its long journey from Balmoral Castle to Her Majesty’s final resting place in Windsor.
Mourners have lined up along roads in towns and villages to pay their respects as the hearse makes it slow six-hour journey. The oak coffin was lifted into the hearse by six of the estate’s gamekeepers, who were tasked with the symbolic gesture. He said: ‘When she comes up here, and she goes through those gates, I believe the royal part of her stays mostly outside.
