A parent who allegedly allowed his teenage sons to ride unregistered e-motorbikes on suburban streets in Noosa has been fined more than $500 amid a local police crackdown.
A Queensland father has been fined for allegedly allowing his teenage sons to ride unregistered e-bikes.A man has been fined after police say they caught his two teenage sons riding unregistered electric motorcycles at Noosa.
Noosa police issued the fine as part of Operation Zappo Stoppie, a major crackdown on the use of battery-powered bikes and motorcycles in the area. Operation Zappo Stoppie is targeting electric motorcycles and non-compliant e-bicycles, but not e-scooters.In Queensland, people riding e-bicycles do not need a licence or registration, but unsupervised riders must be at least 16.
According to police, an e-bicycle motor must not exceed 200 watts or 25kph while ridden on roads or in public. Noosa Heads Senior Constable Danny Baker said police were concerned about a new trend of children and teenagers being given access to even more powerful motorbikes, which can reach speeds similar to that of a car.
