It's the end of an era for Hotel Theodore, the only pub in Queensland owned entirely by the community.

"He was the inaugural chairman for 25 years," he said.Theodore locals could hold shares in the hotel, it cost 25 cents with one share per person giving them the right to vote in a board of six directors and one chairman at each annual general meeting.The hotel has 168 shareholders, and the board hires the manager and staff to run the establishment.

"We've always supported all the local things like the hospital [and] the ambulance auxiliary," Mr Oelkers said.Hotel Theodore has been owned by the community since 1949."In the past five years, we haven't been able to give any money to the town," Mr Holmes said.But Theodore locals hope the new owners will continue their proud tradition of supporting the community.
