Bribie Island has changed drastically over the years and these aerial shots by Nearmap taken two years apart reveal just how much. Read about the Bribie Island breakthrough here:

A tidal channel created when Bribie Island was split in two by the swell from ex-Tropical Cyclone Seth will probably become the dominant entrance to northern Pumicestone Passage off south-east Queensland’s coast.

“The northern section has eroded and the ocean has broken through the dunes due to unusually high tides and large waves associated with the Cyclone Seth weather system that recently affected Queensland’s east coast,” a department spokesman said. Daniel Harris, a researcher at the University of Queensland’s Remote Sensing Research Centre, said the location had been primed to breach for some time.

“If natural processes were to continue, the infilling of the northern entrance and connection of the north side of Bribie Island to Caloundra may occur.”
