New projections attempt to chart population growth into the second half of the century. But a major tipping point is coming sooner.

The share of Queenslanders calling the greater Brisbane area home could make up more than half the state’s population this decade, tipping the balance away from the regions.

Across the next 50 years, the middle-ground projections paint a Queensland of more than 9.2 million people by 2071 compared to the 5.2 million who call it home today.
