Justin Robinson, an American, had held the under-18 world record for the 400-meter dash prior to Wilson’s runs during trials. Robinson ran 44.84 seconds in 2019, when he was 17 years old. Wilson beat Robinson’s record on June 21, running 44.66 seconds. He beat his own new record on June 23, running a 44.59 during the semifinals.
